ATLANTA – University of Cincinnati baseball lost by a score of 6-4 Saturday afternoon at No. 19 Georgia Tech.
UC held onto a slim 1-0 lead through the first half of the game before Georgia Tech answered back. The Bearcats rallied with three runs in the eighth but could go no further.

• Jace Mercer was 2-for-4 from the top of the order with a triple two runs scored
• Joey Bellini also had two hits with a sacrifice and RBI
• Jeremy Johnson had a triple while Eric Santiago added in a double
• Nathan Kroger put together a strong start on the mound, going 4.1 innings with five hits, two runs, one walk and four strikeouts. The runs did not score until after he left the game
• Freshmen Zach Segal and Evan Kemp looked good in relief
• Segal threw 2.2 frames with three hits and no earned runs
• Kemp did not give up a hit or walk in his 1.0 inning with one strikeout

For the second day in a row, the Bearcats wasted no time getting on the board. Mercer led off the game with a triple and scored easily on a Joey Wiemer ground out
Bottom of the 5th
It remained a 1-0 game until the Yellow Jackets were able to get their bats going in the fifth. With one out, a single and triple to deep center tied the game. Following two walks, a wild pitch gave Georgia Tech the lead. Another walk and a sacrifice fly made it 4-1
Bottom of the 7th
Georgia Tech added two more runs in the seventh on a walk, double, single and error
Top of the 8th
Despite being down 6-1, the Bearcats still fought and scored three in the eighth. Joe Powell started off reaching on an error and Johnson was hit by a pitch behind him. Mercer then singled and moved to second on an error, allowing Powell to score and Johnson to move to third. Johnson came home on a ground out by Wiemer and Bellini lined out to right to earn an RBI on the sacrifice fly.
