KENNESAW, Ga. ­– University of Cincinnati baseball completed the Atlanta Challenge on Sunday afternoon with an 11-7 loss at Kennesaw State.
 
// NOTABLES
• Wyatt Stapp and Eric Santiago both had two-hit days and both scored a run
• Joey Bellini led with three RBI
• Dondrae Bremner got his 2020 season started with a homerun
• Joey Wiemer and Jeremy Johnson each had a double while Johnson matched Bellini with three RBI
• Drake Batcho did not allow an earned run in the start. He threw 4.0 innings with four hits, three runs, two walks and two strikeouts
• Jacob Meyer, Ben Vore and Wyatt Geesaman all made their UC debuts on the mound in relief
 
// KEY INNINGS
Top of the 1st

UC struck first in the opening frame for the third-straight game. Wiemer walked, moved to third on two passed balls and scored on a Bellini ground out
Top of the 2nd
Bremner had a good return to action as he homered to right on the second pitch of his first at-bat this season to leadoff the second
Bottom of the 4th 
The Owls were able to work back in the fourth. A single, error, ground out and another base hit allowed two unearned runs to come in. The third came on a single up the middle, putting Kennesaw State ahead 3-2
Top of the 6th
It was UC's turn to respond as the team scored three in the sixth. It started with a Stapp single up the middle before Santiago singled and Komistek walked to load the bases. With two outs, Johnson came up with the clutch hit, doubling to right, earning himself three RBI. 
Bottom of the 6th
Unfortunately, KSU was able to put together a big run of their own in the bottom of the frame. A hit batter, passed ball, walk, base hit and error got the scoring started. A ground out, wild pitch and walk before three straight singles made it an 8-5 game.
Bottom of the 8th
The Owls plated three in the bottom of the eighth. After two quick outs, KSU had two singles and a walk before a double cleared the bases
Top of the 9th
The Bearcats continued to battle, scoring two in the ninth, but could not overcome the deficit. Johnson led off with a walk, Mercer reached on a fielder's choice and Wiemer doubled . Bellini came up with a big single up the middle to score both runners.
