Thomas’ 29 Paces Bearcats to 75-54 Win at Wichita State

IImar'I Thomas scored 29 points, Antoinette Miller chipped in 15 and Sam Rodgers grabbed a team-high nine boards as the University of Cincinnati women's basketball team secured a valuable 75-54 road win at Wichita State Saturday afternoon.

WICHITA, Kan. – IImar'I Thomas scored 29 points, Antoinette Miller chipped in 15 and Sam Rodgers grabbed a team-high nine boards as the University of Cincinnati women's basketball team secured a valuable 75-54 road win at Wichita State Saturday afternoon. The Bearcats (19-9, 10-5 AAC) dominated in the paint as they tallied 58 points, their second-highest total of the year and four more points than WSU scored the entire game, while dropping the Shockers to 15-13 (7-8 AAC) on the year.

• Cincinnati moved to 19-9 overall and 10-5 in the American while Wichita State fell to 15-13 overall and 7-8 in league play
• UC has won 10+ conference game for the third year in a row after winning 12 last year and 11 the year before
• The Bearcats scored 58 points in the paint, just two off their season-high of 60 that they scored against Miami (Ohio)... that total also was four more points than UC allowed in total to WSU in the game
• Thomas scored 20+ points for the 11th time this year (17th time in her career) and 25+ for the seventh time this year
• Miller scored 15 points, making it four games in a row in which she has scored at least 15
• Rodgers' pulled down nine rebounds, her second-highest total this season behind her career-high 10 against Temple
• The Bearcats connected on 52.8% of their shots in the game, marking the seventh time this year they have hit for 50% or better in a game and the third time in the last four contests
 
// THE GAME
Cincinnati opened the game with a quick lead and was ahead, 13-8, before an 8-0 run by the hosts saw the Bearcat trailing for the first time in the game, 16-13, at the end of the first quarter. Despite the deficit, the Bearcats came out strong in the second quarter and went on a 6-0 run of their own to reclaim the lead, one they would not relinquish.
 
With a seven-point advantage at the half, the Bearcats turned it up in the second half as Thomas scored eight points, all of which came in a personal 8-2 that began to open things up inside. From there, UC outscored WSU, 25-13, in the fourth quarter to grab the win on the road and head back to Cincinnati for one final regular-season game.

Cincinnati is set to play its final regular season game Monday night at 7 p.m. inside Fifth Third Arena as the Bearcats will play host to ECU. Following the game, the program will conduct Senior Night ceremonies as UC will recognize Antoinette Miller, Angel Rizor, Sam Rodgers and Florence Sifa.
