CINCINNATI - University of Cincinnati student-athletes will take time out from the busy schedules to make calls to all UC Athletics donors this week during UCATS' eighth annual Thank-A-Thon event this week.
Following classes, practices and training sessions, student-athletes from each of UC's 19 sports will gather to volunteer their time each evening to make personalized thank-you calls to donors. Hand-written letters will also be crafted as another means of allowing student-athletes to show their appreciation.
These calls and letters are a small way for UC student-athletes to express gratitude to donors for their generosity of providing endowed scholarships, crucial funding for facility renovations, initiatives and programming which directly benefits student-athletes.
Director of Athletics John Cunningham will take part in the evening Monday evening. Cunningham, who came to UC in late December 2019 is focused on reminding student-athletes of the many benefits provided by donors which often have a direct impact on current and future successes on and off the field. Additionally, Cunningham and the UCATS staff hope to reinforce the message of unwavering appreciation towards UC's donor base for its continued and unwavering support.
"We are fortunate to have an incredible base of donors, supporters and fans at UC," Cunningham said. "When you surround yourself with people who care deeply and continue to give unselfishly of their time and resources, it emphasizes the University of Cincinnati is a special place. It's a great time to be a Bearcat and I am excited to see us take it to the next level."
ABOUT UCATS
UCATS is an acronym for University of Cincinnati Athletic Team Support and was established in 1979. It was created to provide financial support to fund student-athlete scholarships and special needs of the athletics department; while fostering camaraderie, sportsmanship and school spirit among students, faculty and staff, alumni and friends of the University of Cincinnati athletics programs. The private support received from donors enables us to provide deserving student-athletes with the necessary tools to be successful in their respective sport, in the classroom and in the community. Increasing the number of memberships in UCATS is critical to building an economic model that will support the long-term growth of UC Athletics.
