TicketsUniversity of Cincinnati redshirt-freshman Jack Kunkel (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview HS) carded a 1-under par 71 to tie for 12th place Monday in first-round action at the Colleton River Collegiate in Bluffton, S.C.
Darkness prevented the completion of the second round scheduled for Monday. Action will resume Tuesday at 8:50 a.m. ET, immediately followed by the start of the final 18 holes.
Kunkel's morning round included five birdies, including three straight on holes 13 through 15. A birdie on his final hole at No. 5 brought him under par for the round. He completed the round three strokes behind four players who posted a 4-under 68, including Iowa State's Lachlan Barker and Frank Lindwall, Eastern Michigan's Cougar Collins and Georgia Southern's Mason Williams.
As a team, Cincinnati is tied with Iowa for fifth place after one round at 6-over 294. Iowa State was first after a 12-under 276 score.
Other Bearcat scorers included freshman Cole Harris (Carmel, Ind./Carmel HS) and junior Joe McCarthy (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier/DePaul) tying for 33rd at 2-over 74 and junior Clay Amlung (Louisville, Ky./Saint Xavier HS) tying for 40th place at 3-over 75. Sophomore Sam Jean (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove HS) finished tied for 63rd at 5-over 77.
UC redshirt-sophomore Tommy Sullinger (Indianapolis, Ind./St. John's Jesuit HS) is playing the event unattached from the Bearcats' team score. He carded an opening round 4-over 76 to tie for 51st position.
