LEXINGTON, Ky. ­– University of Cincinnati baseball made the midweek trip down to Kentucky Tuesday night, falling 12-4 in the first midweek contest of the season.
 
The game was back-and-forth at the start until UK was able to pull away with a four-run fourth inning. UC continued to swing the bats well with 13 hits.
 
// NOTABLES
• Jace Mercer went 3-for-4 with two RBI out of the leadoff spot
• Joey Wiemer was 2-for-4 on the night
• Paul Komistek finished 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored
• Griffin Merritt hit a solo homerun while Nate Meyer had a pinch-hit double
• Ben Vore was tagged with the loss, going 3.0 innings in the start
• Jackson Murphy, Evan Kemp and Jack Pacetti all appeared out of the bullpen
• Zach Segal threw the final inning, giving up no hits and facing the minimum three batters with one strikeout

The Wildcats struck first on a leadoff walk and solo homerun in the opening inning

The Bearcats got one back when Komistek, Jeremy Johnson and Mercer strung together three base hits in a row
Top of the 3rd
Merritt hit a no-doubt solo homerun over the wall in left field to tie the game at two
Bottom of the 3rd
Kentucky led by two after two singles scored on a double down the right field line
Top of the 4th
UC kept the back-and-forth game going with a run in the fourth. Komistek led off with a double, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Johnson and scored on a Mercer base hit
Bottom of the 4th
UK opened the game up with a four-run fourth. A single, stolen base, error and single tallied the first run. After another stolen base, another base hit put the game at 6-3. The next two runs came on a bases-loaded hit batter and walk
Bottom of the 6th
The Wildcats' scored another on a solo homerun in the sixth
Bottom of the 8th
UK scored three in the 8th on a walk and back-to-back homeruns
Top of the 9th    
Pinch hitters gave UC some late life in the final frame. Dondrae Bremner walked, Ryan Nicholson singled and Meyer hit a RBI double. Payton Pennington then reached on a catcher's interference, but the Bearcats would end the game with three men on
