CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati Department of Athletics' weekly Watch Party returns to Nippert Stadium this week, showcasing one of the biggest upset wins in program history, the 17-12 upset over No. 9 Wisconsin on Sept. 18, 1999.
Bearcats Watch Party, presented by Nathan's Hot Dogs, airs on Thursday, June 18, 2020 on GoBEARCATS.com, Facebook and YouTube.
The deck was stacked against the Bearcats who were coming off a loss to Troy the week before and facing a stacked Wisconsin squad which went on to play in the Rose Bowl behind eventual Heisman Trophy winner Ron Dayne.
Following the win, UC fans stormed the field and then Head Coach Rick Minter was asked about the goalposts being torn down and replied "Hey, let's buy some more."
NOTING THE WIN OVER WISCONSIN
• RB Robert Cooper keyed the upset. He ran for 143 yards and shocked the Badgers with a 51-yard TD run in the second quarter.
• It was UC's first win over a Top-10 team and at the time, the highest-ranked squad defeated by the Bearcats.
• The Badgers had a red-zone fumble, muffed punt and touchdown-negating penalty in the last eight minutes of the game.
• DeJuan Gossett had 12 tackles and Eddie Johnson had 10 stops for a UC defense which stepped up in a big way.
• UC went to Camp Randall Stadium a year later and took the No. 4 Badgers to overtime, falling 24-20.
