The Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) once again recognized the University of Cincinnati as having one of the top 25 GPAs in the nation, coming in for a tie of 17th for the 2019-20 academic year with a 3.824.
The Bearcats hard work in the classroom tied with Ivy League contender Harvard. University of New Mexico women's golf led the way this past year with a 3.965. Six student-athletes were honored as All-American Scholars by the WGCA earlier this summer. Alyssa Burritt, Angela Lopez, Daniela Murcia, Natalia Sompolvorachai, Paighton Masterson and Vanessa Manrique achieved a 3.50 GPA or higher in 2019-20 for the honor. Women's golf closed out a unprecedented 2020 spring semester with the second-highest GPA in the UC athletic department, compiling an impressive 3.906.
The Bearcats were one of two AAC teams to make the WGCA top 25. ECU ranked 11th with a 3.852 GPA. Previously, UC ranked 15th in 2018-19, seventh nationally in 2017-18, ninth in 2016-17, making this year its fourth consecutive top 20 academic ranking.
The Women's Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. The WGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the WGCA represents over 600 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
