CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati football team was picked to finish second in the American Athletic Conference preseason poll, the league announced Tuesday.

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati football team was picked to finish second in the American Athletic Conference preseason poll, the league announced Tuesday.
 
The Bearcats garnered 201 overall votes with seven choices for first place. UCF led the way with 204 votes and 10 first-place tallies. Defending AAC Champion Memphis (192/2) was third, followed by SMU (146), Navy (125/1), Tulane (118), Houston (114), Temple (88), Tulsa (49), ECU (42) and USF (41).
 
It is the second-straight year the Bearcats and Knights have been picked 1-2 in the preseason media vote. UC won the AAC's East Division for the first time in 2019.

WHAT'S NEW THIS SEASON
The American will operate as an 11-team league in 2020. Each of the 11 teams in The American will once again play eight conference games. The top two teams in the final regular-season standings will meet Dec. 5 in the sixth American Athletic Conference Football Championship.
 
NEW TV DEAL 
The 2020 season also will be The American's first under the league's landmark media rights extension with ESPN, which was announced in March. Click HERE to read more. 
 
ABOUT CINCINNATI
The Bearcats, ranked No. 20 in the AP preseason poll and No. 22 in the USA Today poll, return 16 of 22 starters on the offensive and defensive side of the ball, 55 letterwinners and 13 of the team's top 15 tacklers from the 2019 team which won 11 games, the AAC East Division title and the Birmingham Bowl. UC ended the season ranked No. 21 in all three major polls, won 11 games for only the fourth time in the program's 132 seasons and had back-to-back 11-win seasons for only the second time in school history.

The Bearcats are slated to open 2020 on Saturday, Sept. 19 against Austin Peay inside Nippert Stadium.
