The first episode of "Fresh Faces Presented by Kroger" introduces Bearcats Nation to UC men's basketball freshman point guard Mike Saunders Jr.
The 6-foot, 190-pound, floor general hails from Indianapolis, Indiana, but played the past two seasons at Wasatch Academy (Utah) where he helped guide the Tigers to a 27-2 record and consensus Top 5 national ranking in 2019-20, averaging 14.4 points, 3.6 assists and 2.1 steals.
"It was just a no brainer (to commit to Cincinnati)," Saunders said. "Seeing the facilities and (Coach Brannen) always keeping his word from day one. It wasn't a hard decision at all."
A speedy, four-star prospect according to ESPN, Saunders previously played two seasons (20017, 2018) at Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis where his teams compiled a 35-17 record during his stay.
"I get up the court, Saunders said. "That's the thing that stands out for me from other people's games is my speed. I'm a pass-first point guard. I'm always looking to get my guys involved. I can also score when I need to, but floor general is the main thing I try to do."
"Fresh Faces Presented by Kroger" will spotlight all Cincinnati men's and women's basketball newcomers leading up to the 2020-21 season.
