The latest episode of "Fresh Faces Presented by Kroger" introduces Bearcats Nation to UC women's basketball junior transfer guard Milan Schimmel.

The final piece of the 2020 recruiting class, Schimmel signed with the Bearcats in April after playing her sophomore season at Eastern Florida State College. A season ago, Schimmel started all 30 games, averaging 14.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.5 steals with 25 double-figure scoring efforts and five double-doubles.

As a freshmen at Hutchinson Community College, Schimmel helped lead her squad to the NJCAA Division I Final Four while averaging 6.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.4 steals.

"Milan is a versatile guard that has the ability to play multiple positions in our system," UC head coach Michelle Clark-Heard said in April. "She is able to score in a variety of ways and brings great experience to our teams as we continue to build a championship culture."

"I've always been around basketball all my life," Schimmel said. "My older siblings, my parents, we would always be in the gym. I was basically raised around basketball, am familiar with the game and I love it."

Coach Clark-Heard has long ties to the Schimmel family. The current UC coach served as an assistant at Louisville (2007-12) where she recruited and coached Milan's older sisters, Shoni and Jude. Shoni Schimmel later rose to become the eighth pick in the 2013 WNBA Draft.

That trust came into play during the recruiting process for Milan and her family, who were never able to make an official visit in person to Cincinnati due to the developing COVID-19 pandemic.

"I put my full trust and everything into the coaches," Milan Schimmel said. "Just knowing what Coach Heard is about, she is a winner. She loves to win. She knows what she is doing."

"Fresh Faces Presented by Kroger" will spotlight all Cincinnati men's and women's basketball newcomers leading up to the 2020-21 season.
