The latest episode of "Fresh Faces Presented by Kroger" introduces Bearcats fans to UC men's basketball freshman Gabe Madsen.
Gabe and his twin brother, Mason, both committed to play for the Bearcats in November 2019 before leading Mayo Senior in Rochester, Minnesota, to the program's first Section One, Class 4A championship game since 2008. Unfortunately, the season was canceled before the final game due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Gabe Madsen put up big numbers his senior season, averaging 26.1 points, 8.4 rebounds and 5.0 assists while shooting 41.7 percent from 3-point range and 89.8 percent from the free-throw line.
The 6-foot-5, 195-pound guard scored more than 2,300 career points in high school and was a two-time Post Bulletin All-Area Team selection.
"For as long as I've played basketball, I've always been a scorer and that's what probably what I was recruited as," Gabe Madsen said. "I feel like a lot of people think I'm just a shooter but I'm definitely more than that. I can score and get other guys open and make decisions off of that."
As for off-the-court comparisons to his brother, Mason?
"We're about as different as twins can get," Gabe Madsen said. "I feel like most of our friends would say that too. He's really outgoing. Even if you've never met him, he'll come up and talk to you. That's probably why I'm more quiet because I've had that my whole life. I don't need to say a whole lot.
"We're about as different as you can get for twins but obviously, basketball brings us together."
"Fresh Faces Presented by Kroger" will spotlight all Cincinnati men's and women's basketball newcomers leading up to the 2020-21 season.
