TicketsCINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati senior forward IImar'I Thomas (Oakland, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep) has been named to the preseason watch list for the 2021 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award announced by Her Hoop Stats on Wednesday.
Tabbed the 2020-21 American Athletic Conference Co-Preseason Player of the Year late last month, Thomas earned WBCA Honorable Mention All-America accolades and unanimous First Team All-AAC honors a year ago. She averaged 18.6 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 blocks in 32.5 minutes while climbing to 13th place on UC's all-time scoring list with 1,356 points. She scored in double figures in 27 of 32 games, posting 20 or more points in 14 contests.
The watch list for the award, whose recipient will be named in 2021, includes representative from 23 teams and 15 conferences. In January, 15 players will be named to the midseason watch list. The 10 semifinalists will be announced in February, with five finalists being announced in early March. The winner will be announced in late March. The list is fluid and players may play their way on or off the list over the course of the season.
