CINCINNATI – For the fourth time in five weeks, University of Cincinnati QB Desmond Ridder (Louisville, Kentucky/St. Xavier) was named American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Ridder, who has five career POTW nods to his credit, was responsible for four touchdowns and had 395 yards of total offense to help Cincinnati remain unbeaten with a 36-33 win at UCF, which had won 23 of its last 24 home games.
He completed 21 of 32 passes for a season-high 338 yards and two touchdowns and added 57 rushing yards with two TDs on the ground. Ridder, who leads the Bearcats with 16 touchdown passes and 11 rushing scores, has accounted for 21 touchdowns in the Bearcats' last five games.
LB Darrian Beavers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) and K Cole Smith (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown) both earned spots on the weekly honor roll.
Beavers set career highs with his team best 12 tackles, 4.0 tackles for a loss and 1.5 sacks against the Knights. The Bearcats defense held UCF's offense, which entered the game as the No. 1 offensive in the NCAA FBS, under 400 yards of total offense for the first time in 21 games.
Smith scored 12 points, making field goals of 47, 26 and 22 yards and going 3-for-3 on PATs, setting career marks for points scored and field-goals made. It was the first time UC made three field goals in a game since November of 2016.
The No. 7 Bearcats (8-0, 5-0 AAC) return to action this weekend, continuing three-game road swing at Temple on Saturday, Nov. 28. The game will kickoff from Lincoln Financial Field at 4 p.m. ET on ESPNU and 700 WLW AM.
