CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati junior left-hander Evan Shawver has been named one of the Top 100 prospects in the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft according to D1 Baseball.
Listed at No. 45, the Amherst, Ohio, native ranks as the American Athletic Conference's top ranked pitcher and the league's second-highest ranked prospect overall, behind only Memphis catcher Hunter Goodman (No. 43).
Shawver posted a 1.59 ERA in four starts during the COVID-19-shortened 2020 season, recording 35 strikeouts in 22.2 innings. He allowed only one hit with 12 strikeouts in 8.2 innings of work against Eastern Michigan, earning AAC Pitcher of the Week accolades.
As a freshmen, Shawver recorded 69 strikeouts in 61.2 innings with 10 starts in 17 appearance and a 5.95 ERA.
Shawver was named the 2018 Division I Player of the Year by the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association after posting a 0.11 ERA with 122 strikeouts in 61.1 innings. The Lorain County Mr. Baseball honoree holds the Amherst Steele record for strikeouts with 316 in 191 innings, finishing 21-8 overall with a 0.77 ERA.
The 2021 MLB draft runs July 11-13.
