TicketsCINCINNATI – Thirteen University of Cincinnati football student-athletes, including seven first-team honorees, earned Preseason All-American Athletic Conference accolades from Athlon Sports.
The Bearcats featured seven first-teamers, RB Gerrid Doaks, CB Ahmad Gardner, OL James Hudson, DL Elijah Ponder, DL Myjai Sanders, P James Smith and S James Wiggins. The second team listed S Darrick Forrest and LB Jarell White, the third team included PR Ryan Montgomery and C Jakari Robinson with DL Curtis Brooks and WR Alec Pierce landing on the fourth team.
Forrest, Gardner and Ponder earned 2019 First-Team All-AAC honors while Smith, a three-time all-league honoree, took second-team plaudits. Gardner also earned All-America accolades from Pro Football Focus (third team), The Athletic (Freshman Team) and Football Writers Association of America (Freshman Team).
UC returns 16 of 22 starters on the offensive and defensive side of the ball, 55 letterwinners and 13 of the team's top 15 tacklers from the 2019 team which won 11 games, the AAC East Division title and the Birmingham Bowl. The Bearcats ended the season ranked No. 21 in all three major polls, won 11 games for only the fourth time in the program's 132 seasons and had back-to-back 11-win seasons for only the second time in school history.
The Bearcats are currently set to open 2020 on Thursday, Sept. 3 against Austin Peay inside Nippert Stadium.
