CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati senior forward IImar'I Thomas (Oakland, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep) has been named to the Midseason Watch List for the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year award announced by Her Hoops Stats on Wednesday.
Thomas, the 2020-21 American Athletic Conference Co-Preseason Player of the Year, entered the week ranked second in the nation in scoring, averaging 27.6 points. In fact, she led The American and ranked among the nation's top 20 leaders in seven categories: points per game (second at 27.6), field goals made (fourth at 73), total points (seventh at 193), minutes played (11th at 38.8), free throws made (14th at 46), free throws attempted (19th at 55) and field-goal percentage (20th at .613).
Only Middle Tennessee's Anastasia Hayes (28.6) averages more points than Thomas nationally.
Thomas has scored more than 23 points in every game this season, including a trio of 30-plus point performances.
Thomas is one of 15 players nationally named to the midseason watch list. The 10 semifinalists will be announced in February, with five finalists being announced in early March. The winner will be announced in late March. The list is fluid and players may play their way on or off the list over the course of the season.
