CINCINNATI – Keith Williams scored a team-high 18 points, including 13 in the second half and Jeremiah Davenport tallied 16 points but Cincinnati's rally from an 11-point second-half deficit fell short to Tulsa, 70-66, Saturday at Fifth Third Arena.
The Golden Hurricane claimed its fifth consecutive win this season, snapping a seven-game losing streak to the Bearcats.
Rachal Brandon led Tulsa (6-3, 3-1 American) with a season-high 25 points on 8-of-11 shooting and three 3-pointers to go with a game-best 13 rebounds. Rey Idowu posted a season-best 16 points. Rachal and Idowu combined for a total of 41 of Tulsa's 70 points for the Hurricane's first win in Cincinnati since 1967.
Tulsa led by as many as 12 points in the first half when Elijah Joiner's driving layup gave the Hurricane a 23-11 lead at 8:33.
Cincinnati chipped away on a 41-33 halftime deficit, starting the second stanza on an 11-3 run to tie the contest at 44-44 on a Davenport 3-pointer at 14:46.
Tulsa answered with an 11-0 run of its own to build a 55-44 lead with 9:57 left thanks to nine straight points inside from Idowu.
But UC answered back over the next eight minutes pulling even at 63-63 with 1:30 left thanks to 10 points from Williams and seven from Zach Harvey.
But Rachel converted a three-point play, assisted on a basket inside by Darien Jackson and made a pair of throws inside the final 12 seconds to help pull Tulsa to victory.
Tulsa shot 56.8 percent from the floor (25 of 44) while limiting UC to 34.4 percent shooting (21 of 61), The Bearcats won the battle of the boards, 35-30, and had 17 second-chance points. TU held a 36-28 advantage in the paint.
