CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving squad swept a dual meet with crosstown rival Xavier inside the Keating Aquatics Center as the Bearcats returned to the pool Friday for the first time since Dec. 4, 2020.
The men's team knocked off the Musketeers 146-106 while the women's team earned a 153-94 triumph. The women's squad earned 10 event wins while the men found the top spot in nine events.
MEN'S NOTABLE
Blake Hanna earned a piece of three event wins, swimming leadoff for the victorious 200-medley relay, won the 100-yard backstroke in 47.80 and touched first in the 100 freestyle, clocking 45.35.
Dalton Lillibridge swept the breaststroke events, clocking 53.80 in the 100 and 1:59.91 in the 200, respectively.
Michael Balcerak swam the third led for the victorious relay and also took top honors in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:36.66.
The Bearcats other winners were Calvin Coetzee in the 50 freestyle (20.73), Hunter Gubeno in the 200 backstroke (1:44.66), Kevin Leibold in the 1,000 freestyle (9:28.42) and Brett Wilson in the 200 butterfly (1:28.21).
WOMEN'S NOTABLE
Maddie Exton and Victoria Hunt were part of three victories apiece on the day. Exton touched the wall in 1:49.35 in the 200-yard freestyle, 23.38 in the 50 freestyle and swam the anchor leg on the winning 200-yard medley relay. Hunt swam the second leg on the medley relay and won the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.19 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:17.80.
Abby Johnston snagged a pair of wins, swimming the third leg on the same winning relay quartet and recording a time of 51.18 in the 100 freestyle for an individual event crown.
Other event winners included Katie Qualls going the distance in the 1,000-yard freestyle by over 25 seconds with a time of 10:08.55,Jaclyn Klimczak taking first in the 100 backstroke (56.58), Morgan Shinault placing on the top step in the 200 backstroke (2:02.38) and Camryn Streid earning victory in the 200 butterfly (2:01.81).
SENIOR SALUTE
UC honored its 18-member senior class in a pre-meet ceremony. The honored seniors were Zach Baecker, Audrey Capannari, Maddie Exton, Claire Farrell, Blake Hanna, Victoria Hunt, Abby Johnston, Lina Kutsko, Jamie Kolar, Conor Lynch, Remington Oland, Dominic Polling, Kaley Pook, Katie Qualls, Grace Seibert, Tai Sims, Gus Staubitz and Toby Van Dyke.

The Bearcats are back in the pool Saturday, traveling south to face the No. 10/19 Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving squads. The meet will be held in two sessions at the Ralph Wright Natatorium, beginning with the women at 10 a.m. followed by the men at 2:00 p.m.
