CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati guard Jillian Hayes scored a career-high 16 points in a 68-49 loss to Tulane in American Athletic Conference play Saturday inside Fifth Third Arena.

Hayes, who led Cincinnati (2-7, 1-4 AAC) in scoring for the first time, nearly doubled up her previous career mark of 10, set against ECU earlier this season. She also added a team-best eight rebounds, narrowly missing her first collegiate double-double.

With UC's starting backcourt out with injuries, Sofia Gritzali made the first start of her career and responded with a career-high tying seven points, three steals and a pair of assists.

Tulane (7-3, 3-2 AAC) built a 28-26 halftime lead into a 47-38 edge on the strength of a 12-3 run late in the third quarter. The Green Wave outscored UC 21-8 in the final frame and the Bearcats were held without a field goal in the final 4:55.

The third-quarter effort was a reversal of the early part of the game where UC led by five for most of the opening 10 minutes. Tulane's Aursula Clark scored the final five points of the quarter to knot things up at 13 apiece heading to the second.

Three Tulane players scored in double figures led by Krystal Freeman's 18 points.

Cincinnati's Jadyn Scott posted 10 points in the game, finishing just shy of her career-best of 11, also adding seven boards.
