CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team will face crosstown rival Xavier twice this weekend in a split series.
The Bearcats travel to Cintas Center on Friday, Feb. 5, 2021 for a 6 p.m. ET first serve against the Musketeers ahead of UC's home opener on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 2 p.m. inside Fifth Third Arena.
Cincinnati (1-1) is coming off a season opening series on the road at Illinois State. UC knocked off the Redbirds Friday but fell in straight sets on Saturday.
During Friday's victory over Illinois State, Madison Waters and Maria Tobergte shared their first double-doubles of the season. The duo tied for the team high with 19 kills and averaged 4.75 kills per set with Waters adding 15 digs and Tobergte 11.
Waters leads the Bearcats in kills through the first week of play with 30, averaging 4.29 kills per set.
Ashley Kozer led the team in assists over the two matches with 82, along with scooping 28 digs.
SCOUTING XAVIER
The Musketeers are 1-1 on the season, coming off a 3-2 loss against Marshall and a 3-1 victory over Bellarmine last weekend.
This week's BIG EAST Player of the Week MaryAnn O'Toole had a dominating weekend, posting 31 kills, 2 blocks and 39 digs. She averaged 3.44 kills per ser and ranks second on the team in digs.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week Delaney Hogan also had a strong weekend, averaging 2.56 kills per set and posting a .328 hitting percentage.
LAST TIME
Cincinnati has won four straight over Xavier, dating to 2014. In the most recent matchup on Sept. 19, 2019, UC swept the Musketeers 3-0 The crosstown series started in 1973 and the Bearcats lead 25-11 all time.
