NEW ORLEANS, La. – IImar'I Thomas scored a game-high 25 points and Caitlyn Wilson tallied 20 points with six 3-pointers but Cincinnati fell short at Tulane 61-59 Sunday at Devlin Fieldhouse.
The Bearcats rallied from a 16-point third-quarter deficit to grab a 57-55 lead with 3:52 left on a 3-pointer from Thomas. After a free throw by Tulane's Jerkaila Jordan, UC took a 59-56 advantage on a layup from Jillian Hayes with 2:01 remaining.
However, Tulane's Salma Bates hit a 3-pointer to tie the game then scored again on a transition layup off a UC turnover to give the Green Wave a 61-59 lead with 1:46 to go.
UC (3-12, 2-8 American) was unable to find an answer as Tulane forced the Bearcats into three turnovers in the final 1:17 to extinguish hopes of a final rally.
Jordan led four Green Wave players in double figures with 14 points.
Wilson, who hadn't started a game in her career prior to this week, posted her second consecutive 20-point game as a starter for the Bearcats. She sparked UC's second half comeback effort with 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the beyond the arc in the third quarter. She finished with six 3-pointers on the day, the most by a Bearcat in a game this season.
Wilson netted a game-high 23 points with five threes in a 69-53 loss to Temple on Thursday at Fifth Third Arena.
Thomas registered her 11th 20-point game of the season Sunday. She picked up where Wilson left off after third period, scoring 10 of her game-high 25 points in the final quarter.
UC's eight 3-pointers against the Green Wave were a season-high. Tulane (12-5, 8-4) outscored UC 36-22 in the paint and 16-5 at the free-throw line. UC committed 18 turnovers.
