Bearcats Open Conference Play at Home Against ECU

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team will open up American Athletic Conference play with a two-game series against East Carolina University Thursday and Friday inside Fifth Third Arena.

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team will open up American Athletic Conference play with a two-game series against East Carolina University Thursday and Friday inside Fifth Third Arena.
 
Both matches will start at 1 p.m. ET. 
 
LAST TIME OUT
Coming off back-to-back split series against Xavier and Illinois State, Cincinnati (2-2, 0-0 AAC) looks to gain momentum in conference play with a set of home games against ECU (1-0,0-0 AAC). 
 
The Bearcats have won the last four matchups against the Pirates in 3-0 set sweeps and hold a 15-3 edge in the series history. The Bearcats are 8-1 against ECU at home and have never lost inside Fifth Third Arena in series history with the Pirates lone win in Cincinnati coming at St. Ursula Academy in 2017.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
Through its four games, Cincinnati leads the American Athletic Conference in total Assists with 203, averaging 13.53 per set. The Bearcats are also second in the conference in Digs with 277, averaging 18.47 per set. 
 
Ashley Kozer is setting up for a dominating season as she paces the Bearcats in assists, contributing 176 of the teams 203 total assists. She ranks second in the American moving into conference play, averaging 11.73 assists per set. 
 
Madison Waters is also off to a strong start, accumulating 53 kills for the Bearcats, averaging 3.53 kills per set. Waters is currently ranked No. 10 in the conference in kills and No.12 in total points, totaling 54.5 and averaging 3.63 per set. 
 
This week's AAC Honor Roll recipient Kailea Carrier continues to make waves this season, breaking through the AAC Top 5 in hit percentage. Carrier has a .375 hit percentage through four games with 31 kills, 72 total attempts, and only 4 errors.
 
Carrier had an outstanding performance this past weekend where she led the team in kills per set, averaging 3.25 per set. Carrier was nearly perfect in Friday night's victory over crosstown rival Xavier, hitting .429 with 13 kills on 28 total attempts with only one attack error. Defensively, she added .75 blocks per set on the weekend.
