CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati men's basketball team returned home to Fifth Third Arena for the first time in 41 days and knocked off visiting Temple, 71-69, in a Friday night American Athletic Conference battle.

In a game which was scheduled three days ago, Cincinnati (5-7, 3-4 AAC) led by as many as 10 in the second half but held off a late Owls run for their third straight win in a close game. The Bearcats last three victories have come by a combined eight points. UC was originally scheduled to play at Memphis on Thursday night, but the game was postponed Wednesday.

A Jeremiah Davenport jumper and three-point play from Mason Madsen had the Bearcats up 61-52 with 3:29 to go but Temple (4-8, 3-8 AAC) kept whittling the lead down with a pair of triples, made free throws, a three-point play and when Brendan Barry was fouled shooing a three-pointer and made the ensuing foul shots, UC's lead was two, 68-66 with 60 seconds remaining.

Madsen split a pair of free throws on a technical foul and a layup by the Owls' Jeremiah Williams had things at 69-68 UC with 11 ticks left on the clock. Madsen was fouled on the ensuing inbounds pass and made both free throws to move the margin to 71-68. UC put Barry on the line following a foul with under a second left and he made the first, turned it over while intentionally trying to miss the second and the Bearcats had their first home victory since beating Furman on Dec. 9, 2020.

Mika Adams-Woods and Davenport each scored 12 and added five and seven rebounds, respectively. Davenport also dished out six assists. DeJulius finished with nine points, eight rebounds and four assists while Chris Vogt had eight points and six blocks.

Cincinnati took a 32-26 lead into the locker room at the half, overcoming a slow start which saw Temple run out to a 9-2 lead at the first media timeout. The Bearcats came out firing and used a 16-4 run over 4:30 which gave UC an 18-13 lead with 11:22 left. Seventeen of UC's 32 points in the half came off the bench while DeJulius, Davenport and Eason combined for 14 of the team's 21 rebounds.

Temple's Barry scored a game-high 17 points while Jeremiah Williams scored 16 points and De'Vondre Perry had 10 points and eight rebounds.
