CINCINNATI – Senior forward IImar'I Thomas became one of the top five scorers in Cincinnati women's basketball history, netting a team-best 22 points but the Bearcats fell to UCF, 70-51, Saturday at Fifth Third Arena.
Thomas, who connected on 8-9 field goal attempts and eclipsed the 20-point plateau for the 13th time this season, now has 1,734 career points ranking behind only Cheryl Cook (2,367 points from 1982-85), Valerie King (2,156 points from 201-04), Madinah Slaise (1,849 points from 1997-2000) and Linda Norwell (1,799 points from 1974-77) for most points in school history.
Jadyn Scott added eight points for UC (4-13, 3-10 American) while Jillian Hayes handed out a game-high nine assists.
Brittney Smith led UCF (10-2, 8-1) with 25 points on 10-of-13 shooting while Alisha Lewis poured in 24 points with six 3-pointers for the Knights.
The Bearcats trailed by five at the half and maintained the margin midway through the third quarter before an 11-2 UCF run in just over two minutes broke it open for the Knights who led by double-digits for the rest of the game.
UC didn't enjoy the same success beyond the arc that it had in recent games. The Bearcats had hit eight and nine triples, respectively, over the last two contests but managed 2-of-15 shooting from 3-point land Saturday.
UCF forced 21 UC turnover that led to 23 points for the Knights.
