CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team will open up the 2021 season on Sunday, facing Marquette at noon ET.

Due to the projected Sunday temperatures, the match is being played inside the Sheakley Athletics Center Bubble. No fans will be permitted. Live stats are available at www.BearcatStats.com.

It has been 342 days since the Bearcats saw their 2020 season ended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. UC was only seven matches into the season and in the middle of a three-game winning streak when the campaign ended.

Marquette is also playing its first game of the season. The Golden Eagles knocked off UC 17-6 in Milwaukee a year ago. UC won 22-18 when the teams last played in Cincinnati in 2019. MU leads the all-time series 6-2.

Head Coach Gina Thomas returns for her eighth season at the helm of the Bearcats program. In its last complete season in 2019, UC made the postseason for the first time in school history, playing in the American Athletic Conference Championship game at the Sheakley Athletics Center.

UC is led by four preseason AAC Preseason All-Conference selections, including the preseason AAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year Morgan Dukes. Alyssa AdamsMonica Borzillo and Peyton Mottice joined Dukes on the preseason all-conference team.

Dukes was a first-team all-conference selection in 2019 who led The American in ground balls per game last season (2.86 per game). Borzillo (18g, 13a) also earned first-team All-AAC honors in 2019 while Mottice (14g, 7a) and Adams (14g, 1a) were among UC's leading attackers in 2020.

Kylie Nause, the 2019 AAC Freshman of the Year and First-Team All-AAC selection, returns along with fellow 2019 All-AAC performers Sam Mlkvy (first team) and Adrianna Fess (second team).
