JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of Cincinnati juniors Vanessa Manrique and Angela Lopez led the Bearcats' effort in challenging conditions, finishing tied for 37th place at 14-over 230 Tuesday at the First Coast Classic at Deerwood Country Club.

Inclement weather halted second-round play Monday. Winds and damp conditions Tuesday made the resumption of the second round and completion of the final 18 holes difficult to battle.

Manrique wrapped up her second round at 3-over 75 with three birdies and 10 par scores. She concluded the event with a final-round 10-over 82 score.

Lopez posted a 5-over 77 as she completed her second round. She registered a birdie and 11 par scores for the round. Lopez's final-round 7-over 79 included a birdie and 10 par scores.

Competing in only their second event of the spring season after not playing since Mid-March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Bearcats continue to regain their conditioning and playing form.

Host North Florida claimed the team crown as the only squad in the 12-team field to record a below-par score at 6-under 858. Another southern school finished second as Troy posted at 10-over 874. UC completed the event in 11th place at 66-over 930.

Florida International's Carolina Andrade claimed individual medalist honors after carding a 6-under 210.

Other UC player results included junior Katie Hallinan finishing 59th at 20-over 236 in her first event as a Bearcat. Freshman Sadie Pan tying for 60th place two strokes back at 22-over 238 and freshman Paighton Masterson finishing in 68th place at 29-over 245.

UC freshman Catmela Simon Prieto, playing the event as an individual unattached from UC's team score, tied for 62nd place at 25-over 241.

QUOTING HEAD COACH JANET CARL
"We had tough course conditions with wind and wetness today," UC head coach Janet Carl said. "It provided the players with an opportunity to practice shots they had not had to play in quite a while since you cannot recreate the conditions indoors. We could also see evidence of the team's lack of conditioning and limited competition during the last 10 months.

"The first two rounds of this event showed more of what this team can do even though we still didn't finish those rounds strong. Time to get back home and get busy conditioning and working on our short game."
