CINCINNATI – For the second time this season, three members of the University of Cincinnati track & field program earned American Athletic Conference Player of the Week accolades Tuesday.
Ellie Leather was named the AAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week, Aaron Bienenfeld was tabbed as the AAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week, Austin Goolsby earned AAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week and this marks the first weekly awards for these athletes this season.
PASSING THROUGH
Leather paced the competition this past Saturday at the H-Town SpeedCity Series, taking the first-place crown with a clocking of 4:43.32 in the women's one mile run. Her time was enough to shatter the previous meet record of 5:12.25, as well as the UC record of 4:49.41, previously held by Angie Kist for 19 years. Leather's personal best puts her within the NCAA top 50 at the No. 41 spot.
THE LONG HAUL
Bienenfeld claimed his second track and field victory of the season this past Saturday with a clocking of 7:50.73 in the men's 3000m. With this time, Bienenfeld is now sits atop the UC record books in the men's 3000m, while also holding the meet record at the H-Town SpeedCity Series. Bienenfeld has projected himself into the No. 6 spot in the NCAA, less than four seconds off the current No. 1 spot.
UP AND OVER
Goolsby posted a new personal best at the H-Town SpeedCity series with a mark of 5.08m in the men's pole vault. This mark puts Goolsby in the UC record books, sharing the No. 6 spot with a Shane Shockey who has held his spot since 2009. Goolsby also climbs into the NCAA top 50 with a national ranking of No. 43.

The Bearcats are back in action next weekend, traveling north to Stile Fieldhouse to compete in the Al Campbell Invitational on Feb.19, 2021 in Akron, Ohio.
