TicketsCINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati tennis team was handed its second loss of the season Saturday afternoon against Oral Roberts University, 4-3. Cincinnati (1-2) battled to reclaim the lead from Oral Roberts (1-2) after giving up the doubles point early in the match.
The Bearcats claimed a brief lead after a 2-0 singles win by Sanjana Reddy put them back on top. Reddy took a commanding first set victory holding on to her momentum going into the second. Reddy then posted a 6-2 second set victory over ORU's Flavia Gutierrez taking the series in two. This win marks both her colligate debut and the first win of her collegiate career.
Emma Miceli had a dominating day on the court securing the singles victory two sets to zero (6-2, 6-4) and a 6-2 doubles win alongside Kelli Niehaus in her season debut.
The doubles team of Miceli and Niehaus posted their first victory of the season as a pair against Oral Roberts. Miceli and Niehaus were able to put up an early lead over the Golden Eagles which they held for the remainder of the series, securing the Bearcats only doubles win of the day.
Miceli and Niehaus also claimed two of the Bearcats three wins in singles play against ORU.
Miceli bested ORU's Zere Iskakova posting the fastest win of the day, taking the singles victory in two sets. Miceli limited Iskakova to three total points across two sets taking a 6-2 victory in the first set, followed by a 6-1 finish in the second.
Niehaus also limited the Golden Eagles Saturday afternoon, posting a two-set sweep over Aliksandra Lebedeva. Niehaus claimed an early 6-2 lead over Lebedeva allowing her to take the first set. Lebedeva pushed back in the second set only to fall to Niehaus 6-4.
