CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati track and field team started its weekend out Friday at the South Carolina Invitational at the Carolina Indoor Track and Field Facility.

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati track and field team started its weekend out Friday at the South Carolina Invitational at the Carolina Indoor Track and Field Facility. 
 
Only three Bearcats were in action Friday, Cannon Riddle in the men's heptathlon and Sydney Spears and Katie Straus in the women's pentathlon.
 
PENTATHLON
Straus took fourth in the pentathlon with 3,801 points while Straus was seventh with a five-event total of 3,751 points. The top seven placers were within 400 points of each other with Notre Dame's Jadin O'Brien earning top honors (3,965). Florida's Sterling Lester was second (3,837), Kentucky's Annika Williams (3,809) third and Straus in fourth.
 
Straus' top event was the shot put where she finished third with a toss of 12.06m. She was also fifth in the 60m hurdles (8.80), fourth in the high jump (1.62m), eighth in the long jump (5.41m) and fifth in the 800m run (2:25.45).
 
Spears had a higher placing in the long jump, taking fifth with a leap of 5.48m. She was ninth in the 60m (9.12), 11th in the high jump (1.56m), ninth in the shot put (10.52m) and seventh in the 800m (2:26.37).
 
HEPTATHLON
Riddle is fourth after the first four events, totaling 2,910 points. Georgia's Johannes Erm leads with 3,197 points, followed by teammate Kyle Garland (3,117), Alabama's Jacob Spotswood (2,970) and Riddle. 
 
Riddle had a pair of third-place showings, in the long jump (6.77m) and high jump (1.94m). He was fourth in the 60m dash (7.21) and fifth in the shot put (11.77m).
 
The men's heptathlon will resume at 9 a.m. ET Saturday with the 60m hurdles, followed by the pole vault at 9:45 a.m., finishing with the 1,000m at 1 p.m.
 
UP NEXT
The bulk of the meet action in Columbia will get underway with the men's weight throw and women's long jump at 11 a.m., followed by the 60m hurdles preliminaries at 11:05 a.m.
