CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati soccer team gave up two early second-half goals and dropped a 2-0 decision to Notre Dame on Thursday afternoon in nonconference action at Gettler Stadium.

Following an hour-long lightning delay, the teams played a scoreless first half. Notre Dame (5-5) had a few good looks in the early minutes, forcing UC GK Anna Rexford to make some key early saves. Later in the first half, the Irish pegged a pair of shots off the crossbar, but Cincinnati (1-2) recovered and countered with three shots of their own, including a great chance by Han Tang, forcing ND keeper Jaina Eckert to make a save in her first career start.

ND opened the second half with two goals in just over three minutes. Brooke VanDyck one-timed a low cross past a diving Rexford for the first score in the 51st minute and Kati Druzina followed with a low shot to the far post in the 54th minute for the 2-0 lead.

UC pressed the attack and had a handful of shots which didn't find the target with the last eight minutes a battle of possession with offensive opportunities hard to come by.

Rexford finished with five saves on 16 ND shots and took the loss.
