Volleyball Drops 3-0 Against UCF

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati volleyball team dropped a 3-0 matchup against UCF on Friday afternoon inside Fifth Third Arena in American Athletic Conference action.

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati volleyball team dropped a 3-0 matchup against UCF on Friday afternoon inside Fifth Third Arena in American Athletic Conference action.
 
Cincinnati (6-4, 4-1 AAC) accumulated 30 kills through three sets against the Knights (11-1, 5-0 AAC) while putting up a .071 hit percentage. 
 
NOTES
  • Adria Oliver led the team in kills, gathering seven on 13 attempts with one error. 
  • Maria Mallon had a pair of service aces and scooped 10 digs.
  • Ashley Kozer led the Bearcats with 16 assists. 
  • Armania Heckenmuller claimed 10 assists of her own while also leading the team with a season-high five service aces.
 
SET BREAKDOWN 
SET 1: UCF, 25-15
UCF got off to an early 3-0 lead over the Bearcats. UC quickly answered, putting up two of their own. The Knights responded with six-score run and taking a 10-3 lead. After losing the challenge, the Bearcats found some momentum after two service aces by Heckenmuller brought UC within four. The Knights continued to extend their lead when a service ace by McKenna Melville gave UCF a commanding 23-13 lead. UCF went on to take the first set on an attack error in its favor. 
 
SET 2: UCF, 25-17
Cincinnati tried to shift the momentum to start the second set when a pair of UC aces from Mallon gave the Bearcats the lead for the first time in the match. UCF quickly reclaimed its lead on a five-score streak led by Tali Marmen, who tallied an ace of her own for the Knights. The Bearcats went on a four-score streak of their own, bringing the score within two. UCF polished off the second set 25-17, claiming seven of the last eight points. 
 
SET 3: UCF, 25-17
UCF kept the pressure on to start the third set, taking an early 4-1 lead. Oliver then closed a long rally with a kill for the Bearcats, bringing them within two of the Knights. Four attack errors in the Knights' favor would extend their lead by eight as they began to pull away. A service ace by Heckenmuller gave the Bearcats life halfway through the third, shortening the lead to five. However, UCF held the lead for the remainder of the set, putting the match away on a kill by McKenna.
