TicketsMESA, Ariz. – Freshman Carmela Simon Prieto and junior transfer Katie Hallinan carded identical 4-over 76 scores Friday to lead the University of Cincinnati women's golf team during first-round play at the Clover Cup at the Longbow Golf Club.
The UC duo's result tied for 43rd place, 10 strokes behind individual tournament leader Elina Saksa on UNLV, who posted a 6-under 66.
Simon Prieto posted a birdie and 13 par scores while Hallinan registered three birdies and 10 par scores.
Arizona leads the team standings after 18 holes, posting a 7-under 281 on Friday. UC is 12th at 24-over 312.
Other UC first-round results include: Sadie Pan tying for 61st place at 6-over 78; Erin Evans, playing as an individual tied for 65th place at 8-over 80; Paighton Masterson finishing in 69th place at 10-over 82 and Angela Lopez finishing in 70th place at 12-over 84.

"We were proud of the Bearcats as they battled through some illness and injuries today," UC head coach Janet Carl said. "It was a small victory to have all five players finish their round today. Transfer Katie Hallinan battled sickness for 18 holes and senior Angela Lopez and freshman Carmela Simon Prieto both played with wrist and arm injuries.
"The round of the day goes to Simon Prieto. Shooting her low round of the year even while she double bogeyed the 18th hole. There were some wins today as the team sees where they need to improve to compete with the teams in this field. We're ready to get out and see if they can take these victories to the course tomorrow."
