LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team was unable to overcome a low-scoring first half and lost a 13-5 nonconference matchup at No. 23 Louisville on Monday afternoon at UofL Lacrosse Stadium.
The Bearcats (1-2) scored their first goal with 4:17 left in the first half on Kylie Nause's eighth brace of the season. Nause finished with two goals on the day.
The Cardinals (2-1) started off with a 5-0 lead and the Bearcats pulled it down to three at 8-5 with 14:27 left in the game, but the UC offense was stonewalled for the final segment of the game. UC's offense fired off 25 shots on the day but ran into a buzzsaw in the form of UofL goalkeeper Rachel Florek who made 15 saves in the game.
NOTABLE
• Monica Borzillo was held without a goal for the first time since March 14, 2019, a span of 21 games. The last time it happened was also against the Cards. In 61 career games, Borzillo has been held goalless only six times.
• Alyssa Adams, Taylor Gysin and Gianna Napoletano added UC's other scores. It was Napoletano's first of the season.
• Adams and Morgan Bates tied for the team lead with three draw controls apiece.
• Amanda Fess finished with three caused turnovers, three ground balls and a draw control.
• Kate Brocato faced 32 shots in net and came up with seven saves.
