CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team won the second half but were not able to finish off a late comeback in a 10-8 loss to Vanderbilt in the American Athletic Conference for both teams on Friday, March 19 at Nippert Stadium.

Kylie Nause scored three goals while Alyssa Adams and Monica Borzillo found the back of the net twice. VU's Callie Sundin led her team with three scores while Maddie Souza and Griffin Gearhardt each scored a pair.

Both teams fired 28 shots at the net and Commodores GK Paige Gunning had an unbelievable game, making a career-best 15 saves. UC GK Kate Brocato also showed her mettle, stopping 10 shots and keeping a high-powered offense at bay for significant parts of the game.

UC pulled within two, 10-8, with eight minutes left after a goal by Adams. UC won the ensuing draw but turned it over in the offensive zone, but Morgan Dukes forced a turnover and Jennie Finotti earned a free-position attempt, but it was corralled by Gunning. Adams had another chance at a brace with 2:29 left and again the Vandy GK found the loose ball in a scrum, ending the offensive chances.

The Bearcats had given up three goals in the final two minutes before the half, turning a two-goal game into a five-goal deficit at the half, 7-2. UC scored the first four of the second half with two from Nause and one each from Borzillo and Anna Platou

NOTABLE
• Vanderbilt made two of its nine free-position shots while Cincinnati did not connect on any of its five opportunities.
• Adams had 12 draw controls, outdueling Vanderbilt on her own, 12-5.
Alexandra Fess scooped a game-high six ground balls.
• Platou's goal was the first of her career.
