CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati Volleyball team is set for its final regular season match against Temple University as the battle for a spot in the American Athletic Conference Championship comes down to the results from this weekend's conference clash.
The Bearcats travels will land them in Philadelphia, PA for this weekend's matches, set to take place Friday and Saturday, Mar. 26-27, inside McGonigle Hall at 3:00 p.m. ET.
SCOUTING THE OWLS
The Owls are 8-5, 2-4 AAC with possible movement in the AAC rankings, resulting this weekend's conference games.
Temple is coming off a split series against ECU where they dropped the first day of competition on a 3-0 sweep by the Pirates. The Owls regrouped and took the next match 3-1 after edging out the first two sets (25-23, 27-25). ECU pushed back in set three with a powerful 6-0 lead to start the set. The Pirates held onto their momentum taking the third set 25-16 but fell in set four as the Owls secured an almost identical 25-17 victory of their own.
AAC Honor Roll Gem Grimshaw put up 29 kills over two days of play on 88 attempts with only 11 errors, averaging 4.14 kills per set and a .204 hit percentage.
THE BREAKDOWN
The Bearcats look to reclaim their momentum entering this weekend's AAC match up after a pair off losses against UCF stunted their climb to claim the lead in the AAC East.
UC is 4-2 in conference play and currently sits in the No.2 spot in AAC East as the battle for the division boils down to the results from this weekend.
Cincinnati is currently ranked No.2 in the AAC in service aces, totaling 42 while averaging an impressive 1.83 per set.
Leading the charge in AAC for service aces is Armania Heckenmueller who is averaging .60 per set since her late season return totaling nine for the Bearcats.

The Bearcats and the Owls have met a total of 12 times in series history, with the owls holding a 7-5 lead over UC.
Cincinnati has claimed the last three matchups against temple on 3-0 sweeps with two of them taking place inside McGonigle Hall in Philadelphia, PA. Temples last win came on a 3-1 win over the Bearcats back in 2017.
