PHILADELPHIA – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision on the first day of its weekend American Athletic Conference match up at Temple as the Bearcats fight for their spot in the AAC Championship next week.
Cincinnati (6-6, 4-3 AAC) accumulated 50 kills on 162 attempts and 31 errors, averaging 12.5 kills per set with a .117 hit percentage in Friday evening's loss against Temple (9-5, 3-4 AAC).

SET BREAK DOWN
SET 1: TEM; 25-19
UC grabbed the first two points of the match, giving them a brief lead. Temple quickly answered with three points on a kill and two attack errors in its favor. The owls picked up some momentum putting up a six-score run, giving them an 11-5 advantage over the Bearcats. UC put up three quick points including a service ace by Ficker bringing the Bearcats within four. Temple held onto the lead for the remainder of the set, taking four of the final six points. The Owls put away the first set 25-19 on a kill by Tyler Lindgren.
SET 2: TEM; 25-18
Things remained even to start the second set with Williams putting up three of the Bearcats first nine points. Mallon got a pair of kills to give UC a brief 11-10 lead which went back and forth through 16 when Temple put up three points of its own giving the Owls a three-point advantage. The Owls went on finish the set on five-score run including three services aces in a row by Falanika Danielson which lined Temple up for the set point, taking it 25-18 on a kill to end the rally.
SET 3: UC; 27-25
Temple grabbed an early two-point advantage to open the set while holding onto its momentum from the second set. Norcom answered with three points for the Bearcats, including a set of kills followed by a service ace to even the set at four. The Battle pressed on the remainder of the set when a service ace by Gimshaw set Temple up for a 24-21 match point. UC rallied, shifting the momentum back in its favor. Back-to-back kills by Mallon rejuvenated the Bearcats forcing a Temple timeout. Cincinnati kept the pressure on forcing a 24-24 tie, taking the third set 27-25 on another pair of kills by Mallon, overcoming a late three-point deficit.

Just four points later the Bearcats went on a three-point run with another service ace by Norcom, extending UC's lead by two. Temple quickly gathered themselves putting up 10 of the next eight points, giving them back control the match. Temple. Held on to the lead through the remainder of the set when another five-score run by the Owls gave temple a 23-16 lead. Mallon put up two more late points for the Bearcat, giving them life as they put up five unanswered points, including a service ace by Frederick. Temple followed up with a setpoint, taking the match on a bad set in their favor.

- Sarah Norcom had 11 kills on the night with two service aces.
- Payton Frederick had a three services aces of her own and 11 digs.
- Armania Heckenmueller led the Bearcats in assists with 34 while also scooping 11 digs, enough for a double-double of her own.
