RICHMOND, Ky. – University of Cincinnati junior Katie Hallinan (Loveland, Ohio) put together back-to-back below par rounds of 4-under par 68 and five-under 67 to climb atop the leaderboard at 9-under 135 through two rounds Monday at the Eastern Kentucky Colonel Classic at the University Club at Arlington.

Hallinan's two-round scorecard features 32 holes of par or better scores, including 13 birdies. She sits five strokes ahead of second-place Ragga Kristinsdottir of Eastern Kentucky, who posted a 4-under 68-772=140.

Overall, UC is in second place at the 14-team event following a 13-over 295-294=589 score. Host Eastern Kentucky is first at 2-over 286-292=578.

Two other Bearcats finished the day among the top 30 players in the individual standings. Freshman Paighton Masterson (Avon Lake, Ohio) is tied with nine other players for 16th place at 4-over 76-72=148. She recorded three birdies and 27 par scores. Junior Angela Lopez (Bogota, Colombia) is tied with two players for 28th place at 6-over 77-73=150 thanks in part to a birdie and 28 par scores. 

Other UC scores include freshman Carmela Simon Prieto (Valencia, Spain) finishing 63rd at 14-over 74-84=158; freshman Natalia Sompolvorachai (Columbus, Ohio) tying for 65th place at 14-over 84-76=160; and sophomore Erin Evans (Carmel, Ind.) tying for 67th place at 17-over 79-82=161. Sompolvorachai is playing the event as an individual, unattached from UC's team score.

"I'm really proud of the team's effort today. We accomplished a couple of our daily goals but definitely have to work at accomplishing all of our team goals tomorrow," UC head coach Janet Carl said. "Everyone gave to the team today. Their hard work is showing on the course. We have to go out strong tomorrow and stay focused on our game plan.
