RICHMOND, Ky. – University of Cincinnati junior Katie Hallinan (Loveland, Ohio) wrapped up her best tournament performance as a Bearcat finishing second at 3-under 213 after a final round 6-over 78 Tuesday at the Eastern Kentucky Colonel Classic at the University Club at Arlington.
Hallinan, who joined the program prior to the spring semester, set the school-record for 36 holes yesterday, carding a 4-under 68 and 5-under 69. Her day included 32 holes of par or better scores, including 13 birdies. Final-round playing conditions Tuesday were more difficult as Hallinan settled for three birdies, eight par scores, five bogeys and a pair of double bogies en route to a runner-up result.
The second-place finish is the highest by a Bearcat this season. Eastern Kentucky's Ragga Kristinsdottir claimed medalist honors at 7-under 209 following a 3-under 69 showing on Tuesday.
Two other Bearcats joined Hallinan in the Top 25 individual standings. Freshman Paighton Masterson (Avon Lake, Ohio) finished tied for 17th place at 8-over 224 after a final-round 76. Junior Angela Lopez (Bogota, Colombia) tied for 23rd position at 10-over 226 following a 76 on Tuesday.
Other UC scores include freshman Carmela Simon Prieto (Valencia, Spain) tying for 60th place at 21-over 237. Sophomore Erin Evans (Carmel, Ind.) taking 66th place at 25-over 241 and freshman Natalia Sompolvorachai (Columbus, Ohio) tying for 68th place at 27-over 243. Sompolvorachai played the event as an individual, unattached from UC's team score.
The Bearcats registered their best team finish of the season, taking fourth at 34-over 898 following Tuesday's 21-over 309. Host Eastern Kentucky claimed the team title at 11-over 875.
QUOTING HEAD COACH JANET CARL
"We battled through some very tough conditions today and gave ourselves a chance until the last five holes. To make it 49 holes was a significant improvement over our past events," UC head coach Janet Carl said. "We are happy with the event but we gave away a second-place finish. This team is really melding and all the work is starting to pay off. We just need to learn to be patient.
"We are so proud of Katie and her second-place finish," Carl added. "It's a great testament to her competitiveness that finishing second really hurts after her performance yesterday in setting a school-record low for 36 holes. She will only get better and better."
