CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati baseball team opens up American Athletic Conference play this weekend, heading to Greenville, North Carolina to take on No. 11 East Carolina inside Clark-LeClair Stadium has been revised.

The two teams will play single games on Thursday and Friday at 4 p.m. with a doubleheader Saturday starting at 1 p.m. The Thursday and Friday games will be televised on ESPN+ while the Saturday twin bill airs on ECUPirates.com.

ABOUT THE BEARCATS

  • The Bearcats (11-10) walked off No. 5 Louisville 13-12 on Tuesday night thanks to a one-out single from Louisville native Ryan Nicholson in the bottom of the 10th inning. The Bearcats (11-10) trailed 8-2 in the middle of the fourth and 12-11 in the middle of the 10th. It was UC's first win over a ranked foe since Oregon State in the NCAA Regional on June 1, 2019.
  • As a team, UC is hitting at a .275 clip with 34 doubles and 31 home runs with double-digit hits in 14 games.
  • The fifth and six innings have been kind to the Bearcats as they have scored a combined 58 runs in that span.
  • Griffin Merritt was tabbed for the AAC weekly honor roll after hitting .533 (8-for-15) with five runs, a triple, two home runs, three runs batted in and 16 total bases as the Bearcats went 3-1 last week against Xavier and Saint Louis. 
  • Cole Harting (.343), Wyatt Stapp (.337), Merritt (.319), Jace Mercer (.282) and Joey Bellini (.279) top the batting chart.
  • Harting has six home runs, five doubles and six swiped bags. He recently had streaks snapped which saw him hit safely in seven straight and reach base in 13 in-a-row. 
  • Paul Komistek hit .429 last week with five RBIs and has reached base in 12-straight contests.
  • Stapp's 28 hits and 19 RBIs leads the squad. Stapp, and Eric Santiago have each hit six doubles.
  • Jace Mercer has drawn 10 walks, also adding five home runs, 13 RBIs and six stolen bases.
  • On the mound, UC has a team ERA of 6.01 with 191 strikeouts over 116 walks. 
  • UC's hurlers have struck out five or more batters combined in all but one game this season (Feb. 20 at Clemson).
  • Starters Evan Shawver (29.0), Dean McCarthy (30.2) and Garrett Schoenle (27.1) lead the way in innings pitched.
  • Max Bergmann, Beau Keathley, Nathan Moore and Zach Segal have all made nine appearances out of the bullpen. Segal's 16.0 innings pitched, 12 strikeouts and two saves leads all relievers.
