LAST TOURNAMENT LOOK BACK
The Bearcats claimed the team title at the Craft Farms Intercollegiate on Tuesday carding a 1-over par 865 following second-place finishes from junior Joe McCarthy (Cincinnati, Ohio/DePaul/St. Xavier) and freshman Ty Gingerich (Russiaville, Ind./Guerin Catholic HS). UC finished six strokes ahead of second-place South Alabama, who recorded a 7-over 871. The result marks UC's first team title since winning the Firestone Invitational on Oct. 4, 2016. McCarthy and Gingerich carded identical 3-under 213 scores, coming up one stroke shy of individual medalist honors claimed by Matthis Besard of Southern Illinois, who posted a 4-under 212.
QUOTING HEAD COACH DOUG MARTIN
"We're excited to get back on the road and look to continue to build off our last week in Alabama," UC head coach Doug Martin said. "This team really showed some explosiveness at times last week. We just need to continue learning and understanding what it takes to close rounds.
"This event is new for us," Martin added. "The Pfau University Golf Course will be one the most difficult courses this team has played. Pars are going to be great and we must manage our games well when we are out of position. The forecast looks great so should be a great weekend for golf."
