Lacrosse Comeback Falls Short Against Temple, 16-14

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team dropped a back-and-forth, 16-14 battle with Temple in American Athletic Conference action at Nippert Stadium Friday.

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team dropped a back-and-forth, 16-14 battle with Temple in American Athletic Conference action at Nippert Stadium Friday.
 
Cincinnati (4-7, 0-5 AAC) led 11-10 with 16:23 left in the second half but Temple (7-3, 3-2 AAC) outscored the Bearcats 6-3 in the final 15:29 to earn the come-from-behind win.
 
UC pulled within one at 14-13 after Alyssa Adams scored her fifth goal of the game with 5:31 to go in the second half but the Owls answered less than a minute later with goals at 4:40 and 3:22 to go ahead 16-13. Taylor Gysin added a goal with 1:09 left but the Bearcats could not get any closer. 
 
The game featured five ties and five lead changes as the teams combined for 30 goals on 56 shots. Draw controls were even at 7-7 in the first half, but TU had an 11-7 edge in the second 30 minutes. 
 
UC built an 8-3 lead with 6:25 left in the first half on the strength of forcing 11 Owls turnovers in the opening half. 
 
NOTABLE
• Adams led the way with five goals on the day. 
Monica Borzillo scored two, assisted on two more while picking up seven ground balls and five draw controls.
• Gysin and Gianna Napoletano both scored twice with Sam Mlkvy, Peyton Mottice and Julie Rose also scoring braces.
Morgan Dukes caused four turnovers, scooped seven ground balls and picked up three draw controls.

The teams will face off again on Sunday at noon ET inside Nippert Stadium. The match will air on ESPN+ with live stats on BearcatStats.com.
 
The AAC has announced a new format for the 2021 campaign, with each team playing five teams during league play. The two-game series will take place over the course of three days, with a rest day in between games.
