CINCINNATI – Three University of Cincinnati soccer players, Lauren Bastian, Sophie Gorman and Anna Rexford, earned American Athletic Conference weekly honors, the league announced Monday.
Bastian was the AAC Rookie of the Week while Gorman and Rexford were tabbed for the honor roll.
Bastian assisted on Gorman's game-tying goal in the 84th minute in Cincinnati's 1-1 tie with then No. 15 USF. The double-overtime draw helped lock UC into this week's AAC Tournament in Tampa, Florida.
Gorman corralled the ball off a header from a USF player who deflected Bastian's cross at the top of the arc, let it bounce on the ground and one-timed a brilliant in-swinger while falling down and beat a diving USF keeper with the score just inside the post. The senior from Cincinnati gave a leaping fist bump and was mobbed by her teammates after her first score of the season.
Rexford made five saves on the day, holding a talented USF offense to one goal.
