CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team snapped a six-game skid with an emphatic 16-7 win over Old Dominion in American Athletic Conference action at Nippert Stadium Friday.
Fifth-year seniors Monica Borzillo, Adrianna Fess, Alexandra Fess, Amanda Fess, Sam Mlkvy and Gianna Napoletano were recognized in a pregame ceremony on the field.
Taylor Gysin, Napoletano and Peyton Mottice each tallied three goals, while Borzillo added two scores and two assists, Alyssa Adams had a goal and two assists and Kate Carney, Ali Mazzola, Sam Mlkvy and Julie Rose each added a goal in the win.
Cincinnati (5-8, 1-6 AAC) ran off to a four-goal lead and lead 12-7 at halftime. A goal by Mottice six seconds into the second half continued the momentum and the Bearcats dropped ODU (3-11, 1-6 AAC) in the first meeting between the two programs.
The Bearcats put 24 of their 33 shots on goal and maintained and built their lead in the second half despite committing 17 turnovers and 28 for the game. UC forced 22 turnovers of its own and took a 33-30 edge in ground balls.
