Baseball Drops 7-0 Friday Game At No. 11 ECU

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The University of Cincinnati baseball team was shut out, 7-0, by No. 11 East Carolina on Friday afternoon in American Athletic Conference action at Clark-LeClair Stadium in Greenville, North Carolina.

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The University of Cincinnati baseball team was shut out, 7-0, by No. 11 East Carolina on Friday afternoon in American Athletic Conference action at Clark-LeClair Stadium in Greenville, North Carolina. 
 
The Bearcats (11-12, 0-2 AAC) failed to plate a run for only the second time this season, dating back to a 5-0 loss at No. 25 Clemson in the season opener on Feb. 19.
 
Jace Mercer, who made his 150th career start on Friday, finished with two hits while Cole Harting and Griffin Merritt had the other hits for the Bearcats. Ryan Nicholson drew a pair of walks.
 
ECU (20-5, 2-0 AAC) starter Gavin Williams was dealing, scattering four hits over 6.2 innings and striking out 13. He moved to 3-0 on the season. 
 
UC starter Dean McCarthy took the loss. He threw 6.0 innings, giving up seven runs on seven hits, walking two and striking out six in the 96-pitch affair. 

UP NEXT
The Bearcats and Pirates will close out the series with a Saturday doubleheader, starting at 1 p.m. ET. Bearcats LHP Evan Shawver and Pirates LHP Jake Kuchmaner are the game one starters. The second game of the twin bill will start approximately 45 minutes after game one ends with UC LHP Garrett Schoenle opposing ECU RHP Tyler Smith on the mound.
