BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – The University of Cincinnati men's golf team shot the best round of the day Sunday on the way to a third-place finish at the 2021 American Athletic Conference Championship at Southern Hills Club in Brooksville, Florida.

The Bearcats were the biggest movers on Sunday, jumping three spots on the leaderboard with a 13-under-par 275, the low team round of the day. UC finished with a 54-hole total of 856, eight strokes under par. In the team rankings, UC matched its 2019 finish and has placed fifth or better in four-consecutive championships.

USF led wire-to-wire and won the team total by five shots over SMU 17-under-par 847.

Individually, UC placed two golfers in the top five as Sam Jean finished tied for second and Clay Amlung tied for fifth after firing the second-lowest individual round of the day, a 5-under-par 67.

Jean finished with a final-round 68 and totaled an 8-under-par score of 208 for the tournament. Jean's finish marks the third-straight AAC Championship with a Bearcats golfer tied for second following Davis Baxter (2018) and Austin Squires (2019).

Joey McCarthy shared 19th place at 219 (74-75-70, +3) and Ty Gingerich claimed a piece of 22nd place at 220 (73-77-70, +4). Mason Lenhart rounded out the lineup in 29th place at 222 (76-75-71, +6).

COACH MARTIN'S THOUGHTS
"I am really excited for this team. Today's round is what I have seen from this group since August. We were finally able to convert and take advantage of the opportunities we gave ourselves. This gives us a lot to build on for next season. This team has really worked hard and deserved a round like today.

"Sam and Clay both had great weeks. Having two guys finish in the Top-5 Individually makes a pretty powerful statement about where this program is heading. Very excited for our future."
