CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati track and field program is set to compete at the 2021 Kentucky Open this Friday and Saturday, April 30th and May 1st, at the University of Kentucky's Outdoor Track and Field Complex in Lexington, Kentucky.
Friday's field events are expected to kick off at 2:00 pm ET starting with both the women's hammer throw and men's javelin. The field events conclude at 4:30pm with the women's javelin. The running events will start at 4:00pm ET with the women's 100 meter prelim and will end with the men's 200 meter around 6:00 pm ET.
Saturday welcomes a full day of running events, slated to start at Noon ET with the women's 4x100 meter relay. The running events will take place through the afternoon, closing out the meet with the men's 4x400 meter relay at 4:00 p.m. ET. Saturday is stacked with more field events, starting with both the women's shot put and men's discus at 12:30 pm ET. The men's shot put and the women's discus round out the field events at 2:00 pm ET.
The Kentucky Open is the last regular-season meet for the Bearcats before the AAC Track and Field Championships, which will be held in Tampa, Florida from May 14-16th.
LAST TIME OUT
Cincinnati secured three event wins and 9 podium finishes at the Clark Wood Open this past weekend in Louisville, Kentucky. Aaron Bienenfeld did what he does best by securing a victory and claiming a new personal best in the 5,000 meter by clocking a time of 13:45.72. With that time he also shattered the Clark Wood meet record by 15 seconds and narrowly missed the UC all-time record by less than a second. Taylor Beard claimed the top spot in the women's high jump with a mark of 1.79 meters, her first individual outdoor career win.
The men's distance running group swept the 1,500 meter, with Tyler Wirth leading the pack and crossing the line at 3:46.89. Matt Haok (3:47.29) and Jonathan Harley (3:47.69) followed behind him to secure second and third place respectively.
Julius Hild and Toni Banos were able to outpace the previous meet record in the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase, where Hild claimed a new personal best with a time of 9:03.46 and Banos finished with a time of 9:04.74.
Other notable performances include Ellie Leather finishing second in the 800 meter with a new personal best time of 2:08.19 and holding the No. 2 slot all-time for an individual performance in the 800 meter. Katrina Patterson also secured a new No. 2 slot all-time for an individual performance in the 5,000 meter with a time of 16:52.37.
