CINCINNATI - University of Cincinnati men's golfers Clay Amlung and Sam Jean were named All-American Athletic Conference Tuesday, capping a 2021 season which saw the duo rank among the best in the conference.
Jean was a unanimous selection by the league's coaches.
Amlung and Jean played in all seven events with scoring averages of 74.52 and 72.71, respectively, over the Bearcats' 21 rounds.
They saved their best for the AAC Championship in Brooksville, Florida, as both finished in the Top-5 and the team made a three-spot jump on the final day to place third, the fifth consecutive AAC event with UC finishing fifth or better.
Jean was in the hunt for individual medalist honors and had his best event of the season, finishing in a tie for second with a 54-hole total of 8-under-par 208. His finished marked the third-straight AAC Championship with a Bearcats golfer tied for second following Davis Baxter (2018) and Austin Squires (2019).
Jean's season-best round of 67 came in the second round of the Spartan Collegiate at Sea Island on March 8, 2021. He posted a third-place finish in the event at 6-under par 210.
Amlung tied for fifth, his best finish of the campaign, with a season-low score of 5-under-par 211. His final round 67 was the second-lowest individual round of the final 18 and was Amlung's low individual round of 2021.
It is the second time UC has had multiple all-league honorees as members of The American. Baxter and Squires both were tabbed for All-AAC honors in 2018.
