TicketsJACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of Cincinnati sprinter Caisja Chandler advanced to the Saturday quarterfinals of the 100 and 200m on the second day of the NCAA East Preliminary at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida.
The top 48 declared student-athletes in each individual event—24 for relays—are competing for a top-12 finish to secure a trip to the NCAA Championships (June 9-12) at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. The NCAA Preliminary mirrors the national meet, held over four days with alternating men's and women's competitions. The men take part on Wednesday and Friday with the women in action Thursday and Saturday.
Chandler ran 11.28 to place ninth in the 100m and 23.24 to place 14th in the first round of the 200m, both qualifying marks which will have her running at 7:05 p.m. ET and 8:10 p.m. on Saturday in the 100 and 200, respectively.
Malin Smith just missed booking a trip to Eugene despite throwing a personal best and the UC No. 2 mark of all time with her 16.08m effort in the shot put. The final qualifying spot was the 12th-place mark of 16.52m.
Rachel Coghill tied her personal-best mark in the pole vault, clearing 4.07m to place 25th.
Ellie Leather was 37th in the 1,500m preliminary, placing 37th overall.
Tiona Lattimore finished 42nd overall in the 400m with a 54.87 clocking.
