CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati outfielder Paul Komistek and infielder Jace Mercer were named All-East Region by the American Baseball Coaches Association and Rawlings.
Komistek earned first-team honors while Mercer was tabbed for second-team accolades. The teams are voted on by members of the ABCA and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. I All-America Committee. ABCA/Rawlings All-Region First Team selections are nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors. The ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. I All-American teams will be announced on Saturday, June 19.
Komistek was a First-Team All-American Athletic Conference honoree and led the team with a .364 batting average, including 59 hits, 11 doubles, nine home runs, 23 walks and 44 RBIs. He belted five of his homers in league play, two against UCF in the AAC Tournament and scored 32 runs. He totaled 91 putouts with no errors.
Mercer snagged Second-Team All-AAC plaudits after hitting .340 on the year and .391 in AAC play. He led the Bearcats in hits (71), total bases (114), walks (28) and stolen bases (22) while ranking No. 2 in batting average, doubles (12), triples (2), games played (53) and starts (53). Mercer belted nine home runs, had a .996 fielding percentage with only one error and teamed with shortstop Joey Bellini to turn an AAC-best 50 double plays.
The finalists for the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. I Gold Glove Team will be announced via the Rawlings Sporting Goods Twitter on Monday, June 21, and the Gold Glove winners in all divisions will be announced on Wednesday, June 23. In all divisions, ABCA/Rawlings National Pitchers of the Year will be announced on Monday, June 28, followed by ABCA/Rawlings National Position Players of the Year on Wednesday, June 30.
